Carmen Failla, Class of 1963, passed away on December 31, 2018. He is survived by his wife Charlene of 50 years and sons Chad and Scott.

Rest in Peace fellow Scot!

Per his friend and fellow classmate Mike Porter, "they did not know one another though, until Carmen and Charlene moved up to Oregon and became neighbors. It was at a back to school night in the 70’s at the local elementary school that we looked at each other…I recognized that New York accent…said where do I know you from…then had a good laugh when we figured out where and why. His oldest boy, Chad, and my youngest were classmates. We coached Little League together and became friends that way. Carmen was a jock (drafted by the Mets) and I was a nerd who worked after school with my paper route to pay for my flying lessons in those HHS days!"

"He also shared stories about when he was drafted by the Mets and got their “bonus” payment. He bought a Porsche but was still selling pots and pans to all the gals he went to high school with. Shirlene Lansdon told me that some of those gals used those pots and pans for years! Heck, maybe they still are! In these last few weeks we spent some good visits together over a cup of coffee."

"Carmen was a first class guy. He displayed real courage in the face of his cancer. He’d been telling me that when the transfusions for his leukemia stopped working then it was going to be over for him…”I’m living on borrowed time” he would tell me. On Dec. 24th he texted me “Merry Christmas to you and your family”…I responded saying I’d call him after our company left…he said nothing about how he was doing and died a week later on the 31st with his wife and sons by his side."
